Well as you can see day 3 was a wash out, these things happen when you get yourself in the shit with your missus and the only way out is to apologise and take her out to dinner! That’s not to say I didn’t get some subnetting practice in, I am starting to think the only thing I will be good at will be the subnetting part of the test as that seems to have sunk into my brain quite well.
Day 4 study was a bit unorthodox, tonight I haven’t managed any subnetting, I have spent the better part of 3 hours configuring my 857w so I can finally give back the FortiWiFi 60c to my work (what an unintuitive heap of shit, but more of that another day), I started with a config we got from Internode (my ISP) and after some swearing and quite a few Jacks I now have a functioning router, I’m on the internet, my WiFi is working as expected, I just need to work out some external access (SSH) and I’m set. I have just learnt that to be able to use the wireless and the wired interfaces you need to enable bridging (bridge 1 protocol ieee and bridge 1 route ip), assuming you want your wired and wireless clients on the same subnet, then then add the interfaces you want to “bridge” to the bridge group.
I am pretty happy with the way this come together I got to finally implement my router and spend some time at the CLI, as you can see apart from the subnetting I am struggling a bit to work out what I should be studying to prepare for the ICND1 exam next week. Even though most of what I have just achieved will not be tested on the exam at least I have spend some time using the CLI.
I will be spending the next few days going through the blueprint and making sure that I have an understanding of what I should expect on the exam, and making sure that I have an understanding of what I am expected to know.
